Sperasoft to do platform re-design for BioWare SWTOR

Sperasoft is involved in a massive platform re-design effort for SWTOR, a story-driven massively-multiplayer online game from BioWare and LucasArts. Our development teams will bring the existing BioWare systems to new levels using the most up-to-date engineering solutions.

SWTOR had a rather shaky initial launch with some difficulties that happily got quickly resolved with title earning a surprising amount of new subscriptions. At this year’s Game Developers Conference, BioWare Creative Director James Ohlen discussed the launch of SWTOR and how the title managed to become the second biggest subscription MMOG in western world today. The secret was simple. As soon as BioWare went ‘free to play’ with the title, they had two million new SWTOR accounts and thousands more of new players every day.

Such huge increase in amounts of players definitely called for even stronger, more robust technical solutions involved in SWTOR Platform maintenance. Our long-term partners at BioWare were seeking the best technical solutions that would handle large volumes of data flawlessly. This is exactly why they turned to Sperasoft for some good ideas. Sperasoft’s development teams have earned extensive working experience working on platform architecture and re-design projects in the past.

Another good reason for platform re-work was recent release of first digital expansion for SWTOR, called Rise of the Hutt Cartel. It allows the players to explore a new storyline on the beautiful and exciting new planet of Makeb, earning new gear and abilities, along with access to new content. Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer of Star Wars: The Old Republic said: “All of this new content, combined with a much larger, more active and engaged community since the addition of the Free-to-Play option last year, makes this the best time to join or return to The Old Republic!”
